Soma International
Founded in 1999 by Serge Deslauriers, Raynald Michaud and Énock Turcotte, the SOMA company has committed itself to fill with wonder, seduce and disconcert publics from here and elsewhere with productions mainly oriented towards puppets for adults.
The artistic objectives of SOMA International are many: to amuse, entertain the audience; to keep it alert on the edge of rational and fantastic; to astound it, bring it outside the known paths; to hâve it discover uncommon characters, captivating and sensual in a strange universe, zany and absurd; and finally, to never compromise on quality.
In its first production, the Cabaret Décadanse, has won the Public Award (popular vote) of Montréal Just for Laugh Festival in 1999 and has since continued to accumulate successes at an international level. The show was seen by thousands of spectators throughout the world and by millions of TV viewers when it appeared more than once on the French show Le plus grand cabaret du monde. The collective has well performed on stages in Québec, Singapore, Japan, Italy, Spain, France, Great Britain, Swiss, New Zealand and Mexico, and has recently received the Tap Water Awards at the Edinburgh 2005 Fringe Festival.
